Umami Kid was founded by Sanat and Eunice, a husband-and-wife team passionate about sharing authentic Japanese cuisine and vibrant pop culture. Together, they’ve created a space where Saint John can enjoy delicious ramen, donburi, and drinks in a fun, anime-inspired atmosphere.

Umami Kid began as a dream shared by Eunice and Sanat Gabdyssamet — a husband-and-wife duo who brought their love for Japanese food and pop culture from afar to Saint John, Canada.

Bubbly Cup began as our first venture — a cozy bubble tea shop where we introduced Saint John to refreshing flavors, chewy tapioca pearls, and a playful take on a beloved drink. What started as a small idea quickly grew into a local favorite, laying the foundation for our journey into Japanese cuisine and inspiring the creation of Umami Kid.
THE IDEA IS BORN
Inspired by Eunice’s deep background in Japanese cuisine and a shared love for ramen and pop culture, the dream of creating a Japanese pop culture-themed ramen bar in Saint John began to take shape.
ALL THE HARD STUFF
The vision for Umami Kid began to take shape as the team gathered everything needed to bring the ramen shop to life. Gabriel, Eunice’s brother, crafted the brand identity and creative direction, while Eunice and Sanat focused on incorporating the business and sourcing authentic food supplies. Eunice worked tirelessly on perfecting the recipes, and Sanat began renovations at the newly secured location on 26 Germain Street. Though delays in equipment shipments stretched the process, this period laid the foundation for what Umami Kid would soon become.
FINALLY OPENED!
Umami Kid finally opened its doors for the first time, introducing authentic Japanese flavors in a vibrant, anime-themed space — bringing a fresh, playful dining experience to the city.
Food is great and place is really nice! We ordered ramen, Donburi bowl and takoyaki. All of them taste authentic. Food presentation are 5 star. Staffs are really friendly and welcoming. My standards are high when it comes with japanese restaurants and this one steps it up. Overall experience is really great and will definitely coming back.
This was the most delicious ramen and authentic ramen I’ve ever had! Their Pork tonkotsu ramen tasted like the ramen I had in Japan. Such a rich broth and tasty dishes 😍 I’m so happy a place with such a cozy and beautiful interior opened here! Absolutely awesome spot!!!
I recently visited Umami Kid Ramen Bar with my brother, and it was an absolutely amazing experience! The ramen was top-notch. Rich, authentic, and incredibly flavorful. The portion sizes were generous, which was a pleasant surprise! The service was warm and welcoming and the atmosphere was vibrant and unique, definitely unlike anything else in Uptown Saint John.
